Winter season is on and our body needs to be warm not only from outside but also from inside. Our body definitely craves for soups to get heat in this chilling winter. Soups not only help us to fight winter but also winter prone diseases. In context of this season I am sharing with you, recipe of one of my favorite soups called 19B soup. This sea food soup is a must have whenever me and my husband go for outdoor dining.

It is one of the healthiest soups, which also gives a burst of flavors in your mouth. It has carrots, mushrooms, spring onion, chicken, prawns and delicious sauces in it. I tried 19B soup recipe at home and found taste very close to restaurant one, so, I decided to share it with you also. I find this soup much more flavorful than other soups I have. It is best winter treat for people who love sea food.

 Traditionally in 19B soup ingredients prawns is key ingredient but some restaurants use fish instead of prawns, some also use a mix of two. Well, it all depends on our taste. I have used boneless chicken thighs and shrimps in this soup. I cut them in small pieces to have bite of both things in every sip. I am using vegetable stock in this recipe but you can also use chicken stock. Chop all the veggies finely to get best flavor of all. Consistency of soup is also personal preference. I like it on thicker side that’s why I made it accordingly.

Why this soup is called 19B soup?

There is not any authentic history available regarding the name 19B of this soup. One theory says that a person named Xan chiang developed the recipe of this soup while travelling through train and his seat number was 19B. Once he reached his destination he made this soup and named it according to his seat number in train. But it’s just a story which I got from internet, I am not sure whether it’s true or not.

Tips for making perfect 19B soup

  • Don’t use too much ginger garlic paste for marinating meat because taste of ginger and garlic will be over in the soup.
  • When you mix corn flour slurry in soup make sure to keep stirring it while mixing otherwise you will get lumps of corn flour in soup.
  • Soy sauce, dark soy sauce, chicken powder and marinated meat, all have salt in them. So be careful while adding salt in soup.
  • While adding egg, don’t stir soup. After adding egg wait for some time for egg to cook and then stir. In this way you will enjoy beautiful chunks of egg in soup.

Equipment

Ingredients

  • 100 gm Prawns
  • 100 gm Chicken
  • cup Carrots Chopped
  • cup Spring onion Chopped
  • ½ cup Button mushrooms
  • ½ cup Black mushrooms
  • 3 tbsp Cornflour
  • 4 cup Vegetable stock
  • 2 tbsp Olive oil
  • 1 whole Egg
  • ½ cup Water

Instructions

  • Prepare vegetable stock with four cups of water.
  • Chop all the vegetables and chicken.
  • Marinate chicken and shrimps with ginger garlic paste, salt and black pepper.
  • I have chopped shrimps into small pieces. we can use them whole as well.
  • Heat oil in pan and add chicken. Cook chicken for 5 minutes.
  • Add shrimps and fry them with chicken for 2 minutes.
  • Add black and button mushrooms . Cook for some time.
  • Add salt and black pepper.
  • Add soy sauce and dark soy sauce.
  • Add chili sauce and chicken powder.
  • Put vegetable stock in pan. Don't add vegetables.
  • Add chopped carrots.
  • Make cornflour slurry with 3 tbsp of cornflour and one cup water.
  • When stock starts boiling add cornflour slurry in it and keep stirring it until you get desired consistency.
  • Beat one egg and add in soup.
  • After adding egg don't stir the soup immediately. Wait for 2 minutes and then stir.
  • Add spring onion in the end and serve hot.
