Origin of wontons

Origin of wontons is china. Word “wonton” in English means dumplings. Wontons are usually filled with pork mince and spices and then boiled or steamed. These steamed wontons are mostly served in soup but fried wontons are also very famous worldwide as a side dish. “Wonton” also means clouds in Cantonese because these wontons float like clouds on soup.

Can we make variations in wonton filling?

Of course you can make as many variations in filling as you want. For example, if you do not eat meat, you can make veg filling and if you like sea food, you can replace chicken with shrimps or fish. You can also try different shapes of wontons if you like to do some creativity of your own.

Cooked or raw chicken mince filling? Which is better?

We can use both type of fillings but according to my opinion raw chicken filling is better. Cooked chicken gets a little dry and feels little hard to swallow but raw chicken filling remains juicy even after frying. Only you have to fry your wontons on medium to low heat to ensure that chicken gets cooked properly inside wonton wrap.
