Mostly people think that potato is the unhealthiest vegetable and we should avoid it if we want to lead a healthy life. Well, it is not true. Potato is packed with so many minerals and vitamins, only our cooking method affects its benefits. It has a lot of fiber, antioxidants, and protein in it. It is also naturally gluten free, so the people with gluten allergy can easily eat it. To avoid fried form of potatoes, I made air fryer potato puffs. I also cooked them in microwave in their own steam because by boiling them, you lose various healthy vitamins and minerals.

These crispy potato puffs are best snack to give your kids in lunch, perfect for your evening tea especially in rainy weather, and a must have in your parties and get together. There are various options for how to make potato puffs. Basic dough is pretty simple including only mashed potatoes, corn flour, and salt. After giving shape of puffs to our dough we can either deep fry or shallow fry them. If you don’t have air fryer, you can bake them also. You can also give any shape you want to prepared dough.

Crispy potato puffs tips:

  • In order to make perfect potato puffs your dough should be smooth and even, there are no lumps in it. Dice potatoes in small cubes, cover them, and put them in microwave for at least 8 minutes. Check potatoes with knife after 8 minutes, if they are not fully cooked, give them extra 4-5 minutes in microwave.
  • Although deep frying in oil give them crispier and golden texture, I recommend to bake or air fryer them with brushing a little oil on them.
  • If you find dough little hard, add water little by little until it becomes soft and smooth.
  • For seasoning I have added onion powder, oregano, chilli flakes, and salt. You can also add garlic powder and cumin powder in it. These two things also go very well with it. If you like little tangy flavour, then you can also add raw mango powder in it.
  • Serve them with variety of dip sauces. Tomato ketchup, mint sauce, ranch sauce, and garlic mayo. These sauces enhance the taste of these puffs.
  • If you want to store them, then make puffs and keep them in fridge for not more than 2-3 days. Also cover them properly. Take out from fridge, fry them, and serve immediately.

Equipment

Ingredients

  • 500 gm potatoes
  • 1 cup cornflour
  • ½ tbsp salt

for seasoning

  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp oregano
  • ½ tsp Red chilli flakes
  • ½ tsp salt

Instructions

  • Peel potatoes and dice them in small pieces. Transfer them in bowl and cover with cling foil. Microwave them for 9 minutes or until fully cooked.
  • Mash cooked potatoes until smooth. Add corn flour and salt.
  • Add water gradually if required and knead it to a soft dough.
  • Take small mount of dough in hands and give it shape of disc. Take a fork and press it gently over disc. Make 14-15 out of dough.
  • Apply oil with brush on all discs and cook them in air fryer for 25 minutes. You can also deep fry them.
  • For seasoning mix onion powder, salt, chilli flakes, and oregano.
  • When potato puffs are ready, sprinkle this seasoning on it.
