These delicious homemade cinnamon twists are a kind of snack that takes very little effort to make but tastes incredible. These twists are soft, sweet, buttery and aromatic with beautiful golden crunchy outer crust. I and my kids are almost addicted to this snack. I often go to bakery to eat cinnamon rolls or cinnamon sticks to satisfy my sweet cravings. But sometimes they are not available. So I decided to make them at home. When I tried this recipe, I found it so simple. With only few ingredients, we can make them and enjoy them. I have made a very simple sweet dip sauce also that goes very well with these cinnamon twists.

  • If you love to do art work then here is the recipe to try one. You can make as many shapes as you like. You can make shape of rolls, sticks, buns or any other of your choice; just keep experimenting with the dough.
  • It’s a time saving recipe. You make the dough once and keep it in refrigerator for almost a week. Just take the dough out whenever you want to make them and they will be ready in just 15-20 minutes.

Some pro tips for making perfect cinnamon twists

  • Dough is most important in this recipe. To make fool proof dough it’s very important to check yeast before adding it in flour. To check weather yeast is working or not, dissolve it in warm water with a tablespoon of sugar in it. If water becomes foamy after some time, this means yeast is working. You can knead the dough with this water.
  • Applying butter with brush on cinnamon twisters while baking them gives them beautiful golden color. Again applying butter immediately after taking them out from oven makes them super soft.
  • Apply a very generous layer of butter and cinnamon sugar mixture on the dough, the more you add, the better it tastes.
  • Don’t skip adding warm milk in the flour while kneading. Milk makes the dough soft and fluffy.
  • If you want to store these twisters, make sure you store them in an airtight jar to keep their moisture intact.
  • Don’t roll the dough too thin. It should be at least ½ inch thick. With thin dough twisters will become hard.

Can I use air fryer for making cinnamon twisters?

I personally recommend cooking them in oven; air fryer may not give them beautiful golden color from outside. But it’s fine if you want to cook them in air fryer. Results may differ a bit, time of cooking may also differ, but they will be cooked properly.

Can I use puff pastry for making cinnamon twists?

Yes, if you like crispy and crunchy cinnamon twists rather than soft bread like ones then do use puff pastry. Recipe will be the same,taste will also be same almost, only texture differs.

  • 1 and ½ cup Flour
  • 1 tsp Yeast
  • 2 tbsp Sugar
  • ½ cup Butter
  • ¼ cup Warm milk
  • 1 pinch Salt
  • ¼ cup Brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp Cinnamon powder
  • ¼ cup Water

For sauce

  • ½ cup Icing sugar
  • ¼ cup Milk
  • 2-3 drops Vanilla essence


  • Take ¼ cup of warm water. mix 1 tbsp of sugar and ½ tsp of instant yeast. Wait until yest gets activated and becomes foamy.
  • In a bowl mix flour, 1 tbsp of butter, milk, sugar and salt.
  • Add yeast water in flour mixture and knead it to a soft dough. Apply little olive oil on dough and cover it with cling foil.
  • Keep the dough in a warm place for 2 hours or until it becomes double in size.
  • Roll the dough round with ½ inch thickness.
  • Mix cinnamon into brown sugar.
  • Take 2 tbsp of melted butter and spread it on dough with brush.
  • Now apply cinnamon sugar mixture on the dough in a way that dough is totally covered.
  • Cut the dough in stripes with 2 inch width.
  • Take one strip, fold it and give it as many twists as you want. In this way make all the twists.
  • Place the strips on a baking tray and bake them for 15-20 minutes at 180 degree centigrade.
  • While baking apply melted butter on twisters for getting golden color.
  • Take out twisters from oven and again apply melted butter on them.
  • For sauce mix milk, vanilla and icing sugar until sugar is totally mixed.
