Steak is a very popular meal liked by people all over the world. I am also among one of those people who love steak. But making a perfect steak is an art. There are so many things which we should take into consideration while making steak especially beef steak. From quality of meat to making a smooth bled of spices for steak marinade to cooking temperature, everything matters.

Selection of steak cut very much depends upon personal choice. I like rump portion meat because it is soft and juicy. But real taste of steak is developed by its marinade and sauce. You can choose any kind of steak cut and use this recipe for making it. You can also try my sizzling beef steak with black pepper sauce recipe. I have made creamy mushroom sauce which goes really well with this steak and to make my meal complete and filling I have added grilled veggies and mashed potatoes with it.

I prefer cooking my steak to medium rare level where the meat is crispy from outside and remains soft from inside. I personally think that rare or rare done steak is almost raw and well done is hard to chew. Almost 80 percent people prefer medium rare to medium well steak. First important step is to hammer the meat in order to break its hard fibres.

Steak marinade should be simple should not overpower the original flavour of meat. Most important is salt and crushed black pepper, some ginger garlic paste, mustard paste, lemon juice, and little bit soy sauce. Marinate your steak for 2 hours before cooking.

Steak is incomplete without some sauce. I have made a very simple mushroom sauce that takes the taste of steak to a next level. Just garlic, cream, mushrooms, and seasoning. With these simple ingredients you can make your sauce in less than ten minutes. My chicken steak with tarragon sauce recipe is also a must try. Cook your steak on a high flame first and let its crust formed on both sides. Cook on high flame for 5 minutes and then reduce flame a little and cook each side for ten minutes. To add extra flavours to your steak add some garlic cloves, butter, and rosemary while cooking.

Can I use beef stock or chicken powder to make my creamy mushroom sauce more flavourful?

There is no need to use these such things. You just have to reserve the leftover oil and spices in pan in which you have cooked your steak. These leftovers have a lot of flavours in it. Add these leftovers in your sauce and see the difference.

What are the options to serve with beef steak with creamy mushroom sauce?

Well mashed potatoes and veggies are enough and quite filling but if you want to make this meal more filling then you can add a small bread bun also. You can also replace mashed potatoes with potato wedges.

for steak marinade

  • 1 kg beef steak pieces use 1 inch thick steak pieces
  • 1 tbsp salt
  • 1 and ½ tbsp crushed black pepper
  • 1 and ½ tbsp ginger garlic paste
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice

for cooking steak

  • 4 tbsp oil
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 6-7 garlic cloves
  • ¼ tsp dry Rosemary

for mushroom sauce

  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp chopped onion
  • 1 tbsp chopped garlic
  • 1 cup mushrooms
  • 200 ml cream
  • ½ cup milk
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • leftover of cooked steak


  • Take the pieces of steak, put one by one in a plastic bag and hammer them to break tough fibres of meat
  • Mix salt, black pepper, soy sauce, ginger garlic paste, and lemon juice. Apply this mixture on all pieces of steak and let them marinate for 2 hours.
  • Heat oil in pan and and put all pieces of steak. Cook them on high flame, each side for 4 minutes at least. When golden red crust is formed on all steak pieces, add butter, garlic cloves, and rosemary in pan. Cook steak for some time more to infuse flavours of garlic and rosemary in it.
  • Take out steak and let it rest for 10-15 minutes before cutting. Reserve the leftover of steak in pan.

Preparation of mushroom sauce

  • in a pan heat up butter. Add chopped onion and garlic in it and cook for a minute. Now add diced mushrooms and fry for a minute. Now add cream, salt, black pepper, and leftover of steak. Add milk until sauce comes in desired consistency.
